During the Golden Age of Postcards, Edward Beebe documented the resort, lumbering and transportation history of Leelanau County. Between 1909 and 1915, he was the best-known photographer in northern Michigan, using a large format camera and producing glass plate negatives that developed incredible black and white photographs.
He came to North Manitou Island first to photograph its lumber industry. The rugged beauty and the character of its residents captured his imagination and brought him back frequently. Historic Leelanau Photographs of Leland, Suttons Bay and North Manitou Island from 1909 to 1915 captures nearly 300 of these rare historic photos with a narrative of these early times written by Edward Beebe, Jack Hobey expert.

Nationally-recognized architectural photographer Dietrich Floeter and Leelanau Press publisher Barbara Siepker capture the beauty and essence of 60 summer cottages and the nostalgia enveloping them. In a recently released second edition of Historic Cottages of Glen Lake six new cottages have been added, together with updated text. The book contains 350 black and white photographs of the cottages’ cozy interiors. Detailed text introduces a previously undocumented era through narratives from cottage owners. The families tell the stories of where they came from, how they got Glen Lake, and where they first lived. They fell in love with Glen Lake and the Sleeping Bear Dunes, sending down deep roots and building these now-historical family retreats. The resort era and how it overlapped the lumbering era is central to the story, along with local craftsmen, architects and builders.
Originally published in 2008, Historic Cottages of Glen Lake received three book awards: the 2008 Historical Society of Michigan award and a Foreword Magazine Book Award Finalist. and a 2009 Michigan Notable Book by The Library of Michigan.

Mapping the Grand Traverse Indian Country: The Contributions of Peter Dougherty was originally published as a chapter in Mapping in Michigan and the Great Lakes Region edited by David Macleod and published by Michigan State University Press in 2007.
Helen was a Beulah MI summer resident (1916-2011).
